Ketones appear in the blood when there is not enough insulin in the body to change sugar into energy. When the body cannot use sugar, it uses fat and muscle stores for energy. The breakdown of the fat and muscle produces ketones. Ketones are an acid waste product that build up in the blood.

There are three key reasons why a person would have moderate or high levels of ketones in their blood: Lack of insulin in the blood: Someone with diabetes may need to adjust the amount of insulin they take. Low blood sugar: Also known as hypoglycemia, this most often occurs in the morning when insulin levels drop.
Can Exogenous Ketone Supplementshelp you with your diet or weight loss?
Ketones Supplements claimed to cause the fat within cells to be broken down more effectively, helping your body burn fat faster. These supplements contain only the beta-hydroxybutyrate ketone. The other primary ketone body, acetoacetate, is not chemically stable as a supplement. Best exogenous ketones supplements are generally considered to be a safe and effective way to increase ketone body concentrations, and have been shown to decrease appetite, which may help you lose weight by eating less. In one study in 15 people of normal weight, those drinking a beverage containing ketone esters experienced 50% less hunger after an overnight fast than those drinking a sugary beverage. This appetite-suppressing effect was attributed to lower levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin between two and four hours after drinking the ketone ester drink. However, ketone supplements may not affect appetite as much in people who have had a meal beforehand.
